Shopper

HKJFP Shoppers assist clients with their item selections in the pantry. Volunteers work directly with clients throughout their shopping experience, helping them make choices regarding products based on their eligibility and family size in an efficient, friendly manner.

 Volunteer Requirements

  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all personal and sensitive client information.
  • Good communication, customer service skills, and ability to follow guidelines.
  • Standing on a concrete floor, walking and lifting.
  • Committing to a regular schedule and to volunteer at least one year.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Complete all required paperwork and screenings.
  • Attendance at required interview and program specific training.

Registrar

HKJFP Registrars welcome food pantry clients in the reception area and aide them through the registration and interview process. Registrars check client registration paperwork, gathering personal information, entering information into a client database, and scheduling future appointments.

 Volunteer Requirements

  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to use iPad/computer applications.
  • Maintaining privacy and confidentiality of all personal and sensitive client information.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Completion of required paperwork and screenings.
  • Attendance at required interview and program specific training.

 Sorter-Stocker

HKJFP Sorter-Stockers assist with maintaining organization in warehouse, sorting, receiving areas and restocking shelves in the shopping area. Volunteers sort both perishable and non-perishable food items, and evaluate products for freshness and suitability, disposing of items per instructions from Inventory Specialist. Duties also include assisting with cleaning boxes, tables and other items used in the pantry.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Standing, lifting, walking, bending, while working in warehouse setting.
  • Follow Food Handling and Safety Procedures set forth by the HKJFP.
  • At least 18 years old (or 10-17 with the ability to volunteer with an adult).
  • Completion of all required paperwork and screenings.
  • Attendance at required interview and program specific trainings.

Basket Decorator

Gather with friends and create beautiful displays to support the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry. Basket decorators work to organize, customize, and decorate baskets to be used at celebrations across St. Louis. Every basket that is created symbolizes a donation to our food pantry.

  • Must be available to volunteer on Wednesday mornings between 8:30 am and 11:30 am.
  • Volunteers with an eye for color who enjoy creating beautiful things are ideal.
  • Completion of all required paperwork and screenings.
  • At least 18 years old (or 10-17 with the ability to volunteer with an adult).
